What stays on your phone

Your tasks, your answers and your day count stay on your phone. Blocking runs on Apple's Screen Time permission, so ScrollBuddy never sees which apps you open or what you do inside them.

Your name and your goal for the month stay there too, and so does the app's own log of what it did, apart from the lines a crash report carries. The sentences ScrollBuddy writes for you are made on your phone by Apple's on-device model.

What leaves your phone, and why

No account. There is no sign in, so there is no profile of you on a server. The name you give ScrollBuddy stays on your phone, and the app never asks for your contacts or location.

A random install id. The app makes a random id the first time it runs and sends it with analytics, so events from one phone can be counted together. It is not your Apple ID or any device identifier, and it is gone when you delete the app.

How you use the app. Events such as a day starting, a task marked done, how many minutes you spend and when, how many apps you picked, and which plan you chose go to PostHog, hosted in the EU. They carry choices and numbers, never the words you type, and never which apps you picked, because Apple does not show those to us. The one exception is a note you choose to send Aaron, below.

Crashes and hangs. When the app crashes, hits an error or freezes, a report goes to Sentry so we can fix it. A report carries the app's last fifty log lines to show what led to it. Those lines can include the reason you give before opening your apps and a sentence ScrollBuddy wrote about your tasks. Performance tracing is off.

Your city, roughly. The app never asks for your location and never reads it. When analytics arrive, PostHog works out a city and country from the connection, then discards the IP address and keeps only the place it implied.

A note to Aaron. If you write in the feedback room, your note goes to PostHog as one event so Aaron can read it. Adding an email address is optional, and it is used only to reply to you.

Purchases. You pay Apple, not us. The app checks Apple's signed record of your purchase on your phone, and we keep no receipt or payment details.

Letters. If you once made an account on the old ScrollBuddy app, Aaron may email you about changes, because the terms promise an email before a material change takes effect. To stop them, use the Unsubscribe button your mail app shows, reply with the word stop, or open the unsubscribe link.

This website. We count visits with the same EU hosted PostHog. Browsing runs cookieless: nothing is stored on your device and no profile is built about you, which is why there is no cookie banner.

In Apple's words

The app's privacy manifest declares six data types in Apple's terms. Crash data, performance data (hangs), product interaction and coarse location are used for analytics and are not linked to you. Other user content (your note to Aaron) and an email address (only if you add one) are used to answer you, and a note sent with an address is linked to it. None of it is used for tracking.

What we never do

No tracking across apps and websites. No selling or sharing data with advertisers or brokers. No ads. No account. No access to your contacts, photos, messages or screen. No location asked from your phone.

Keeping and deleting

Everything on your phone is deleted when you delete the app. Analytics and crash reports are not tied to your name and age out on PostHog and Sentry's retention windows. To have a note or an email address you sent removed, or to ask any question about your data, email support@scrollbuddy.app.

Changes

If this changes, the date at the top moves. We will not quietly widen what we collect.
